Nanfu Wang and Zhang Lynn have made a fascinating documentary, One Child Nation (2019) about China's former One Child policy. It starts out by Wang lookig at the personal-the birth of her own first child and then looks at her family and her village to understand how the policy affected them-from there she unfolds a bigger story of state sponsored child removal for adoption for families abroad. It is a sad story and was skillfully executed by the two directors in a personal yet objective way.
