Overall William A. Wellman's adaptation of the Walter Van Tilburg Clark short story Track Of The Cat (1954) is somewhat over dramatic with a few scene eating performances. However, Robert Mitchum's role as Curt Bridges, the alpha male in the household is not one of them. His steady acting keeps the film somewhat grounded, but he is in fewer scenes in the second half of the film and the film is poorer for that.
