In Yoji Yamada's 43rd installment of the Tora-san (Kiyoshi Atsumi) series, Tora-san Takes A Vacation (1990), we have another Mitsuo (Hidetaka Yoshioka) centered episode. The precredits sequence is another dream sequence which finds Tora-san as a historical poet who stumbles across his long lost sister, Sakura (Chieko Baisho). There's a fight in Sakura's household as Mitsuo wants to live off campus in an apartment to avoid a brutal commute to school. Just as he is planning to move out Izumi (Kumiko Goto) his crush from the last episode arrives looking to ask her father to come back home. It turns out that her father no longer lives or works in Tokyo, so she vows to chase him down in Hita, Oita on Kyushu where he has relocated. Mitsuo decides to join at the last moment. Izumi's mother, Reiko (Mari Natsuki), comes to Tokyo to get Izumi and arrives at Toraya after the kids have absconded to Kyushu. Tora volunteers to take the attractive mother to Kyushu to find the kids. Izumi gives up on quest when she sees how happy her father is in his new life with his new woman. Reiko doesn't take it very well and they leave before Tora and Mitsuo after raucous night at an inn in the picturesque onsen town.
