Nicolas Ray's Party Girl (1958) was a studio film noir/musical hybrid that was mainly made to justify the salaries of the two stars Robert Taylor and Cyd Charisse. However, it seems Ray lived through the prohibition period in Chicago and thought he could bring something to the production but had little creative control. Taylor plays a mob lawyer, who meets the show girl with integrity, Charise, and falls in love. He tires to go straight but his boss Lee J. Cobb has one more job for him or he's going to have acid thrown in the face of his girl. Needless to say it all gets resolved in the end.
