Bay Of Angels (1963) is Jacques Demy's last "traditional" film before he discovers color and the musical. In this film Jean (Claude Mann) gets the gambling bug from his co-worker Caron (Paul Guers). Soon after he meets a divorcee, Jackie (Jean Moreau), with a bigger gambling problem than his own. Demys plays with genre conventions here-it is the man who believes he can change the woman-femme fatale who personifies a Mrilyn/Jackie fusion and is solely clad in black and white throughout the film. There is some exceptional on location cinematography in Cannes and elswhere throughout the film. The ending in particular is a memorable visual treat.
