There's a call back to the ninth film, Tora-san's Dear Old Home, in the 13th episode, Tora-san's Lovesick, with the reappearance of Utako (Sayuri Yoshinaga), a previous love interest. This film also opens with a dream sequence where Tora (Kiyoshi Atsumi)returns to Shibamata in an 18th century setting to tell his aunt and uncle that he is ready to marry only to find them dead. In real life Tora has found a prospect and wants the family to meet her, so Sakura (Cheiko Baisho) and his neighbor Octopus/Taco (Hisao Dazai) go to a hot spring town in Shimane, Yunotsu to meet the bride. It turns out that her estranged husband has returned and things are going well for her. Tora moves on after this setback and runs into the recently widowed Utako and tells her to come to Tokyo and stay with his family at Toraya. He falls for her again but there is conflict between her and her father as well as her future-which gets resolved. But needless to say her future does not include being married to Tora as she takes a job working with handicapped children on Oshima island in Izu.
