Obsession / The Hidden Room (1949) is an entertaining thriller from Edward Dmytryk (Crossfire) who unfortunately is best known as a denounced communist who named names including Jules Dassin, who directed Night and the City. He later fled to England, where this film was made, in the fallout from the Hollywood witch-hunt. In this film with noirish overtones, Dr. Clive Riordan (Robert Newton) has concocted a full proof murder plan to get back at his cheating wife who has one affair too many. It is a well-paced suspenseful thriller with stand out performances from the three leads.
