It seems like I saw J. Lee Thompson's The Guns Of Navarone (1961) when I was a child, but I couldn't remember the story at all. I recently saw a Robert Mitchum WWII film also set in Greece, The Angry Hills, and several reviews mentioned Navarone, so I decided to revisit it. It's almost 3 hours long, but I did enjoy it more than the Mitchum film. Basically the story is about a British team sent to cross occupied Greek territory and destroy the massive German gun emplacement that commands a key sea channel. Which makes me wonder how British Gregory Peck is..., but he's good in it as are the other main ensemble stars such as David Niven, Anthony Quinn, Stanley Baker, etc. Lots of action and suspense-if not overlong.
