I recently saw a friend post an image from Chris Bernard's Channel Four Film Letter To Brezhnev (1985) on a Facebook challenge to post a picture from a film a day. I was unfamiliar with the film, but after reading about it, I thought it sounded good. And I did enjoy it. It is something akin to a New Wave romance on par with Valley Girl, except that it takes place in Liverpool in the 1980s. Two local girls, Elaine (Alexandra Prigg) and Treasa (Margi Clarke), meet two Russian sailors, Sergei (Alfred Molina) and Peter (Peter Firth), on leave. Elaine and Peter fall in love and Elaine in desperation writes a letter to Brezhnev asking for help in begin reunited. The on location shooting shows what Liverpool was like in the mid 80s and has an upbeat 80s soundtrack that gave this viewer a feeling of nostalgia.
