John Curran takes a look back at the controversial case of Ted Kennedy in 1969 when he was involved in the death of Mary Jo Kapechne in Chappaquiddick (2017). Jason Clarke stars as the surviving Kennedy who faces an uncertain future after his car plunges of a bridge in Chappaquiddick and his companion in the car, Kapechne, is not able to escape the car. The character of Kapechen is a cypher and her relationship with Kennedy is never truly defined. Obviously this is someone's version of the events, but I suspect we'll never know the true story. It is probably most accurate with the after event sequences in which Kennedy fails to report the accident immediately instead follows a sort of numb procrastination knowing that his presidential hopes will vanish once he does. The advisors and subsequent plans to minimize the damage seems all too accurate though.
