I tried another popular Koenjii spot, Tensuke, a tempura counter with about 10 seats. I got the prawn and vegetable set meal (rice, miso soup, and pickles) for ¥2000. It was incredibly fresh, the chef pulls the tempura out of the fryer and straight onto your plate. The set included three prawns and several types of vegetables (eggplant, broccoli, pumpkin, shiitake mushroom, asparagus-and the two servings in the picture below).
Lotus root and shrimp ended the meal. I'll definitely be back sometime to try the signature dish-tempura soft-boiled egg served over rice.
