Guillermo del Toro's The Shape Of Water (2017) was something like the critic's darling for 2017-with 13 Oscar nominations and wining four including Best Picture and Best Director. It is the story of a mute cleaner, Eliza (Sally Hawkins) who works in a government laboratory in Baltimore in early 60s that falls in love with a human-like aqua creature. It is a visually striking film with homage to the great musicals of the past which Eliza likes to watch with her neighbor (Richard Jenkins). The heavy is played by Michael Shannon with usual menace. It was an entertaining feel-good film that I enjoyed, and I think it would have been among my top five films of the year had I seen it last year.
