Rice patties inland at the start of my island nature tour. It's probably my favorite thing to do in any country-ride in a car, bus, or train and just take in the countryside. This tour probably involved 4-5 hours in a car, but it was great to see the lush countryside of verdant Lombok.
A monkey at the Pusuku Monkey Forrest stop.
In the local market.
Lush countryside at Sendang Gile & Tiu Kelep Waterfall Park.
Sendang Gile waterfall was a quick 15 minute hike from the entrance.
On the trail to Tiu Kelep Waterfall, which was about 40 minutes away and involved crossing a stream, in my case shoeless since I didn't know I was supposed to bring sandals. I stubbed a toe en route-it's looking ugly now.
Tiu Kelep Waterfall, the main attraction.
A mural at the local restaurant where I had lunch after the hike.
I decided to try a new dish and had rawon (a traditional spicy beef black soup)-vey nice.
Terraced rice patties.
Dinner at Taman, grilled mahi mahi with a spicy tomato sauce with grilled vegetables and potatoes-the best meal I had on Lombok.
Snake fruit (salak) was a new discovery for me-it has an unusual consistency and taste: like a garlic clove that is apple like and sweet and acidic, with a strong astringent edge.
