Menya Shono is a well-known ramen shop with several locations, I visited the Ichigaya shop where I have night classes on Tuesday at Nihon University. I suppose I should have gone with a typical style ramen for my first visit, but the shop is known for the inventive monthly specials. This month is was a sanma (saury pike-a seasonal fish associated with fall in Japan) based tsukemen (noodles with broth on the side-a Tokyo loved variety). Tsukemen is not my favorite style, the broth was fish based and the noodles were served with sudachi (a lime-like fruit), grated daikon (radish), bamboo shoots, ginger, raw pork, and deep fried sanma all for ¥990. It was an interesting mix of flavors, but a it much for me when all was said and done. I'll have to try something less adventurous next time.
