Charles Vidor's film Gilda (1946) is one of the quintessential examples of film noir. In this film a small time gambler, Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford), lucks into a job in a Buenos Aires casino only to find his ex-lover, Gilda (Rita Hayworth) the wife of the owner, Ballin Mudnson (George Macready). For the rest of the film there is a thin line between love and hate in regards to Ford and Hayworth. The film is notable for the sexy song and dance numbers by Hayworth and the impressive cinematography of Rudolph Mate.
