I attend ed my first Yakut Swallows baseball game at historic open air Meiji Jingu Stadium (established in 1926), they are Tokyo's second team, since the Yomuiri Giants are Japan's first team, much like the Yankees. I have been to some games at the Tokyo Dome, but prefer outdoors games-even though it was very hot and humid that day. The Swallows lost 5-1, but when they scored their one run the fans put up umbrellas (time for the pitcher to hit the showers) and sang an old folk song "Tokyo Ondo." Fans are allowed to bring in outside food and drink-I was surprised to see that. It is definitely a cultural experience to see a baseball game in Japan where the teams cheer the entire time their team is battling-including individual songs and chants for each player.
