Junichi Mori's Laundry (2002) starts out to be a seemingly promising whimsical story about a simple-minded coin laundry operator Teru (Yosuke Kubozuka) and his quirky cast of customers. Omce the sad and tragic Mizue (the lovely Koyuki) arrives on the scene the films takes a turn for the worse in saccharine sentimentality and the Japanese melodramatic TV tropes that I find cloying, annoying, and exaggerated.
