A friend of mine recently told me he saw Danny Boyle's T2 Trainspotting (2017) on his birthday, and I realized that it was still playing in Tokyo. I vowed to see it soon, so I recently had the chance to see it and found it very satisfying. The first film was released in 1996, so I saw it before I arrived in Japan and the soundtrack was very much on high rotation that first year in Koshigaya, Japan. In fact I remember hearing some tracks like "Born Slippery" in a club on Koh Samui in Thailand that winter vacation. I was a fan of original author Irvine Welsh and had read several of his books including the sequel, Porno. This screenplay was written by John Hodge, because a straight up adaptation would have been difficult given the subject matter, but there's plenty of low life behavior and goings on. It was great to revisit Renton (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewen Bremner), Simon (Johnny Lee Miller), and the terrifying Begbie (Robert Carlyle).
