I can see that Jean-luc Goddard's Two Or Three Things I Know About Her (1967) is something of a turning point stylistically since it suggests his political radicalization. The characters in the film seems less like individuals than types or avatars for the author's philosophical musings that range from politics (the Vietnam war), economics, and commercialization of society. The lead character, Marina Valdy as Juliet, is a typical resident of a high rise outside the city and does some part-time prostitution to pay the bills. Perhaps suggesting that we all compromise ourselves in a capitalistic society. It is a Brechtian type of experiment with some interesting visual images throughout, but I can't help but feel as though it left me cold with types instead of characters. There is no doubt that there are some interesting ideas and concepts being addressed in the film, but it feels disjointed and episodic to me.
