Peter Hutchinson, Kelly Nyks and Jared P. Scott have created a documentary, Requiem For The American Dream (2015), which is Noam Chomsky's analysis of the current political and economical situation in America. He calls it the worst period of inequality in the history of America. In the film he uses cites Ten Principals of Wealth and Concentration of Power to explain how and why this came about. The ten principals are: Reduce Democracy, Shape Ideology, Redesign the Economy, Shift the Burden, Attack Solidarity, Run the Regulators, Engineer Elections, Keep the Rabble in Line, Manufacture Consent, Marginalize the Population. In 75 minutes he manages to explain how were are in the mess we are in. This film was made before the last election but it seems as though he saw it coming by acknowledging the anger people have at being disenfranchised and how if things continues as it is-things will get ugly. And the Trump presidency is"ugly" if nothing else. However, ti might get even uglier before it gets worse. Chomsky also always gives examples of what is working in the democracies and tries to draw hope and inspiration form those factors. The film concludes with a sentiment expressed by the late Howard Zinn, a former friend of Chomsky. Chomsky quotes:
What matters is the countless small deeds of unknown people who lay the basis for the significant events that enter history. They’re the ones who’ve done things in the past. They’re the ones who will have to do it in the future.
