I had heard good things about Kampot, which is located about three hours southwest of Phnom Penh and decided to visit there this time in order to have a new experience. I am staying at the Bokor Mountain Lodge, (see above) a French colonial building that has seen better days.
The city sits on the picturesque Praek Tuek Chhu river.
This Japanese ex-pat, Yuki from Tokyo, is selling sushi and his own home brewed beer-I had the Flower Pale Ale-not bad.
There's lots of crumbling French colonial architecture throughout the city.
The Fishmarket is housed in a cool Art Deco building on the waterfront.
Green pepper and chicken stir fry at a riverside cafe.
Night time illumination.
The restaurant-guesthouse Rikitikitavi, the most upscale place in town.
The bar upstairs.
Loc Lac is a marinated beef dish served with a pepper sauce.
The Durian roundabout in downtown Kampot.
This shop has a big screen to project movies via computer for a theater-like experience. They show Cambodia-themed films (i.e. The Killing Fields, etc..) daily at 4 pm, but they have a well-curated 7:30 showing of recent and current films of interest-I was compelled to see the Noam Chomsky documentary Requiem for the American Dream.
