My base of operations in Bangkok will be The Fusion Suites on Soi 19 in Sukhumvit which is near Metro and BTS Skyway stations.
My friends David and Jo from Tokyo invited me to have dinner with a Thai friend at a fine dinning Thai restaurant called Paste, which specializes in fusing ancient recipes with modern ingredients. It was a social event and I thought the menu was online, but it wasn't, so the explanations will be minimal. We shared all the dishes-this was a set meal for 4 people.
Crispy smoked prawns with roasted coconut & cashew nuts, served on rose apple.
Watermelon & ground salmon with crispy shallots, roasted galangal powder.
Roasted duck, nutmeg, curry paste and saw tooth coriander served on rice crackers.
This was a seafood dish that I couldn't find on the web site.
Massaman lamb curry of crispy young Mhon Thong durian, shaved coconut apple & Thai cardamom.
Coconut cream soup of galangal, chicken with chilli jam & premium plankton paste.
Old style hot and sour soup of crispy pork leg, chargrilled shallots, jack fruit seeds, roasted tomatoes in a smoky chicken broth.
Another dish I couldn't find on the website-it was duck.
Dessert.
Chinese New Year decorations at Paragon shopping mall.
Lunch of pork noodles with basil chicken and rice at Terminal 21's Pier 21.
Nearby my hotel is the Siam Society which is a royal funded institution, hence the mourning shrine for the king.
There's a Black Canyon Coffee shop that looks into the courtyard-this will be my go to hang out location.
I had happy hour craft beers on the rooftop at Brewski.
