I read about an interesting exhibit Wa no Akari x Hyakudan Kaidan 2016 in The Japan Times and have never been to the elaborate wedding complex and community space Meguro Gajoen before, so having the afternoon free I decided to check it out. It is an impressive complex oozing sophistication and ambience. The exhibition focuses on four kinds of art: festival decor, general artworks, crafts and traditional performing arts. Works range from re-creations of festival floats to Hokusai ukiyo-e prints and lantern displays.
Interesting display in the lobby.
This kind of art adorns several of the walls along the elongated lobby area.
Art displayed on the approach to the exhibit.
Pearl inlay images in the elevator up to the exhibit area.
There are several pleasing garden views in the elongated lobby.
This festival display was from Hakodate in Hokkaido.
This lantern display is from a festival in Akita in the north.
These colorful floats are from the famous Nebuta festival in Aomori at the farthest northern point on Honshu-the main island.
More waterfall gardens.
A shot from behind the waterfall.
In the glass atrium cafe lounge.
It was such an impressive area I decided to indulge in a mid afternoon treat, cheesecake with a latte.
