I was predisposed to like the latest BBC miniseries, The Night Manager (2016) since it is an adaptation of a John LeCarre novel and stars the talented duo of Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie. Hiddleston stars as Jonathan Pine a night manager recruited by by MI-6's Angela Burr (Olivia Colman) to infiltrate the inner circle of an arms trader named Richard Onslow Roper (Hugh Laurie). The love interest for Pine is the statuesque Elizabeth Debicki. Add the exotic locations (Mallorca, Spain, Marrakesh, Morocco, Zermatt, Switzerland) filmed by director Susan Bier that play off like lifestyles of the rich and famous-it is a pleasant diversion despite the fact that it is not as well written as it might have been.
