The second film by Koreyoshi Kurahara in the Eclipse Series 28: The Warped World of Koreyoshi Kurahara, is The Warped Ones (1960). This films seems as though it owes something to Jean-luc Goddard's Breathless, which came out the same year. The soundtrack has a hard driving jazz score and there is a lot of hand held camera work that seems innovative for the time in which it was used. It is a tale of delinquent youths who engage in petty theft, prostitution, and run around looking for kicks by stealing cars and heading out to the beach. On this trip Akira (Tamio Kawachi) stumbles on the journalist that saw to him getting arrested for a robbery and knocks him down and abducts his girlfriend, Fumiko (Noriko Matsumoto) and rapes her. His best friend Masaru (Eiji Go) and his trick turning girlfriend Yuki (Yuko Chishiro) ride along for kicks. It is a film full of energy and must have been ground breaking at the time and has a very distinct style. It does not seem like the same director that made the genre picture, Intimidation in the same year.
