I decided to make a visit to Ikegami Honmon-ji because I found out that that the celebrated Japanese director Kenji Mizoguchi was buried there and I wanted to pay my respects. It is located about 8 minutes from Nishi Magome station in Ota-ku. I am screening his classic film, Ugetsu, in my Japanese cinema class now.
Mizoguchi's grave stone.
The back of his gravestone has some of his accomplishments listed. The top section lists all the films that made the Kinema Junpo Magazine Best 30 films of the year during his career.
