I was unaware of Carol Reed's adaptation of Graham Greene's classic spy novel, Our Man In Havana (1959) filmed in cooperation with Castro's new government until just recently preparing for a trip to Cuba. I suppose Carol was the most likely choice since the Greene collaboration was successful on several other productions-The Fallen Idol, The Third Man, and The Innocents (However, it has been said that Greene declined Alfred Hitchock's offer to direct). There's some great location scenes of old Havana throughout the film and Alex Guinness is a solid Wormold. It seems pretty close to the original novel, but I haven't read it in years-so it's not so fresh in my memory. I still find it annoying that the film producers use Caucasian actors to play Latins, in this case, Ernie Kovacs plays the sadistic Captain Segura. An overall entertaining and competent adaptation.
