Once again Micahel Winterbottom follows Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon on a culinary adventure in The Trip To Italy (2014). It is much of the same, but this time at six locations throughout Italy:
Cenobio dei Dogi, Camogli
La Suvera, Pievescola
La Cantina, San Fruttuoso
Il Riccio, Capri
Villa Cimbrone, Ravello
Oliver Glowig, Rome
There is a thin plot line revolving around the fictionalized versions of the actors who are dealing with issues like adolescent children, divorce, and adulterous affairs. However, it is much more entertaining to observe their banter and ceaseless impersonations. There are some bits about Percy and Shelley in exile in Italy that are somewhat inspiring and interesting as well. I wonder who came up with the concept of having the Alainsi Morissete as the soundtrack to the driving scenes? Overall, it was another fun, if not slight travelogue, which comes on the heels of my own most recent trip to Italy where I visited many of the places they visited-but in March rather than the summer unfortunately.
