Fruitvale Station (2013) is an impressive first film from writer/director Rylan Coogler. The film is based on the real life story of story of Oscar Grant III, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident, who crosses paths with friends, enemies, family, and strangers on the last day of 2008 at the BART Fruitvale station. It is a tragedy with real life roots and some powerful perfromances from Michale B. Jordan (The Wire), Melonie Diaz, and Octavia Spencer.
