We decided to give a local BBQ restaurant a try.
The waitress recommended Beef Lok La, which is beef cube on a bed of cucumbers and onions with a fried egg on top with a salt-and-peppery lime-based dipping sauce. It was my first time to sample this excellent dish.
I also ordered some BBQ shrimp, which was off putting for some at the table since they are whole shrimp, I tore off the heads and ate the body legs and all. I'd prefer to have them properly cleaned, but when in Rome...
One of my lunches was spent at Bopha Phnom Penh Titanic Restaurant with a nice spot near the Tonle Sap River.
The restaurant had a nice ambiance with lots of traditional Khmer art decoration.
I was too busy eating to take photos this time. I started off with the coconut shake. We also ate prawn tempura with sweet chili sauce (it was more like deep fired prawn, excellent at any rate), Fried Chicken with Tomato and Fresh Coriander, Fried Beef with “Angel Hair” Noodles, and Vegetable Fried Rice.
I'm sometimes surprised with people's squeamish reactions to certain foodstuffs. I thought that whole prawns were relatively common, but I guess it depends on the circles you move in. They are probably the ugliest of all commonly eaten foods though, and it makes me wonder how we got to eating them in the first place.
