I was intrigued by the recent establishment of a Texas style BBQ restaurant in Tokyo, White Smoke. It didn't disappoint, we tried the Dinosaur Ribs (my favorite), Beef Brisket, and Smoke Turkey with a side of garlic potatoes. There's a good selection of top drawer alcohol and wine to compliment. Not far from Roppongi Hills in Moto Azabu.
The T.Y. Harbor Group has a nice roster of restaurants (Cicada, Beacon, etc...) and has added a new venue, Ivy Place, in the T-Site in Daikanyama. I recently had lunch on the patio on a warm sunny afternoon (this will be a great place in better weather seasons). The menu has a Mediterranean/California cuisine feel to it with freshly baked bread from Breadworks, which is on the premises. There is the added bonus of free refills on tea and coffee.
I had a friend from out of town here on business and we met some other friends in Kagurazaka and started out a fairly new pub, The Royal Scotsman. There are four beers on tap and a myriad of whiskies, along with some typical food choices like fish and chips and the more exotic haggis. It has a cozy atmosphere, but isn't the cheapest place to drink by any means, but quality not quantity is the rule here.
Dinner in Kagurazaka was at a soba restaurant, Nagomi, that specializes in cuisine from Yamaguchi-a prefecture in southern Honshu near Kyushu. Excellent soba, tempura and nihonshu from the region.
And finally there's authentic New York-style pizza in Tokyo, albeit far north in Oji, Rocco's Pizza. It was worth the trek-slices and whole pies are available. I tried the Mix Pizza and Meat Lover's-a whole pie and a slice-and both were worthy. It was definitely worth the trip, which will be made more often in the future.
