This has been one of those years where I didn't get a chance to see a lot of the celebrated movies of the year. However, I was able to see several while at home on vacation at the year end and these are my choices for the top films:
1. The Descendants
2. Drive
3. Shame
4. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
5. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
6. 13 Assassins
7. Uncle Bonmbee Who Can Recall His Past Lives
8. Of Gods And Men
9. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
10. Tree Of Life
I guess I'd recommend anyone to see these on the big screen. And here's two solid renters as a bonus and heads up on one that I wasn't so impressed with.
Sleepers: Win Win, The Debt Most Overrated: Midnight In Paris
I am super surprised at your #7 - a Hollywood blockbuster, that is not like you. I saw it on a plane and it was good but I would have thought you would have placed it in the popcorn variety with Mission Impossible and others.

I was trying to make a statement about number 8, as well. And I saw it on the big screen with low expectations while on holiday in Singapore in the summer. I saw Moneyball and didn't include it and almost didn't include Tree of Life, but it was visually stunning-but the story was trite and overblown in my opinion. Actually, I WANT to see the new Mission Impossible in the theater and might do it in Bangkok at the end of the month.
