Looks good, Pat. Any safety concerns in your current travels?

MC

Not really, I guess there are always health concerns. I picked up some medicine in Bangkok just in case I get tummy troubles.

There has been some fighting on the Cambodia/Thailand border, but I won't be traveling in that region. In remote areas there are still unexploded American bombs from the secret bombings in Cambodia/Laos-but in rural areas.

From here I go south to Pak Lay for the Elephant festival, then Vientiane to volunteer/homestay, then fly to Siem Reap followed by a boat trip on the Mekong to Battambang, then overland to Phnom Penh for the English Teaching Conference. All of these places are well-established on the tourist trail in SE Asia.

Thai in Australia is becoming a bit like Indian in England. I reckon its the favourite Asian food of Australians, and if you don't count fast food/ pizza then it might be the favourite food of any kind. I suppose travel to Thailand might be responsible, though Indonesian food hasn't really taken off despite all the trips taken to Bali. We have a lot of Balinese furniture and craft places though.

It is kind of strange that Indonesian isn't more popular, but Thai is really taking off in America as well. I think my hometown of Spokane, has 2 or 3 Thai restaurants these days, and it's not necessarily a hip spot like Seattle or Portland.

I am a big fan of Nasi Goreng and satay. However, there's not many Indonesian restaurants in the US or Japan either.
