His Girl Friday (1940) film directed by the legendary Howard Hawks starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell is a classic that I somehow manged to miss. I have heard great things about the screwball comedies of the 1940s and it's an area I'm trying to get up to speed on. That being said, I also bought a ¥398 copy of The Philadelphia Story in addition to this one. The frantic pace and memorable performances by the leads who can't stand to be together but can't live apart are masterful. I can now see where the Coen Brothers were coming from with their homage to the screwball comedies of the 40s with The Hudsuckeer Proxy. His Girl Friday is a classic that stands the test of time extremely well-it is very entertaining and well made.
