It’s hard to know where to start with a film like Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York. It is a film of many layers. But the simple analysis of the film surface message of life, death, sickness, and fear of these things is powerful enough on its own merit. But the meta-narratives of stories within stories add layers of complexity. The scale and scope of the film is as impressive as exhaustive in the soul searching that it inspires. It is a powerful film, but definitely not a feel good film. I could see how many interpret it as a depressing art house film. So it’s not for everyone, but I found it profound and cathartic. Philip Seymour Hoffman is impressive as always. There is a great supporting cast with the likes of Catherine Keener, Samantha Morton, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hope Davis, Emily Watson-bring a lot to the experience with their great supporting performances.

Yeah, you made me want to see it. Seen anything good lately?
I also have raves coming up for Gomorra and Adventureland.
