I was sorry to see Paul Newman pass away. There have been various tributes to him and I'd like to make mine. There are several films that I find very inspiring that he starred in:
1) Cool Hand Luke:He's one of those great cinematic creations right up there with One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Five Easy Pieces. A rebel with a lust for life's that's impossible to extinguish. (There used to be a restaurant named in homage to this great film)
2) The Verdict:Directed by Sidney Lumet from a script penned by David Mamet. Nuff said except that Newman gives one of his greatest performances of his career. (Slate agrees)
3) Nobody's Fool: Another one of those roles in which he plays a character full of life and unwilling to bow down to anyone.
4) Absence of Malice: A man against the system, a film that used to use on my journalism classes when I still taught high school.
