Papaya salad is one of the Thai food staples that I ususally eat, but my Lao friend Touk assures me that it is made differently in Laos and is spicier than the Thai version. It's hard to disagree, it's very spicy.
Pork Laap salad is also one of the more popular dishes in Laos. Touk instructed us to eat it with sticky rice by hand and it truly tastes better that way. I usually eat regular steamed rice, but I realize now I'll have to order stickly rice to authentize my Thai/Lao meals. Shingo insisted on ordering frog-it was prety good, it tastes like chicken as you may have guessed, but I let him eat most of it.
