I recently saw two excellent biopics, Walk The Line and Capote. In both movies, their success was mainly to due the strong performances of the principal actors, Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote and Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon as Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. I also liked the fact the these films choose to focus on a specific period in the life of the artist, rather than trying to cram their whole life into a single story. In Capote, it was during the lengthy time that it took him to write his breakthrough nonfiction book In Cold Blood. In the case of Johnny Cash it focused on his relationship with June Carter. Both films were very entertaining.
