It seems as though Fred Zinnenman's adaptation of a novel, The Sundowners (1960) about an itinerant family in Australia was award bait. It has on location shots from the outback with kangaroos and koalas and stars Americans Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr as the Ida and Paddy Camody. their accents are not authentic and are frequently broken. I suppose it must be one of the few Australia based productions up to that date. They are joined by on screen son Sean (Michale Anderson Jr.) and Peter Ustinov in a comedic relief role. Unexceptional but fairly entertaining none the less.
