Monnalisa Ebisu is Taro Kawano's Micheline one starred French restaurant in the back streets of Ebisu. I decided to give lunch a try while on spring vacation. I opted for the A set lunch: with appetizer, three mains, fruit soup, dessert and coffee or tea for ¥4800.
The appetizer was a carrot and crab terrine.
The first main dish was marinated buri and presse of leek, with yuzu flavored ravigote sauce.
This was followed by gratin of scallop and spinach (this dish differs from the description on the website, which advertises a madras curry creme sauce). This was perhaps my favorite dish, which is unusual for me since I'm not a big fan of scallops, but this dish was a great combination of tastes and textures.
I chose the stewed pork shoulder and sweet potato gnocchi over the John Dorry (fish=mahi mahi).
I swear this fruit soup had pop rocks in it! Very unusual and nostalgic at once!
The dessert was an assortment of deserts like creme brulee, chocolate cake, creme puffs, ice cream (not pictured), etc. Overall, impressive and a rare treat.
