I felt the need to see Jean-Marc Vallee's Dallas Buyers Club (2013) after its two main stars Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto won Oscars. I suppose I would have seen it, even if they hadn't won since McConaughey has been on a renaissance, which includes the brilliant HBO series True Detective. That being said this film suffers form the usual problems of do-gooding biopics. It elevates the subjects into saints while simplifying and fictionalizing the original story in order to make it more palatable for mass audiences. Impressive performances from McConaughey and Leto all said and done.
