The Ngoc Lan Hotel in Dalat where I will be staying the next five nights. Dalat is much cooler than HCMC and air conditioning is unnecessary. Apparently, it's population is about 209,000, but it seems very spread out and much smaller than that. It is known as a popular place for weddings, anniversaries, and couples to visit. It has a bit of schmaltz about it that reminds one of places like Leavenworth, Washington (known as a fake Bavarian village). For example, I almost skipped the complimentary dinner from the hotel-and I should have followed those instincts-a midiocre four course continental dinner.
