This last weekend I attended the JALT PAN Sig Conference at Hiroshima University's Higashi Campus near Saijo city. This is my second visit to Hiroshima, so I've already done typical touristy things like visit Miyajima and eat Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at the Okonomiyaki Village. Not to mention seeing the Peace Park , Museum, and atomic bomb memorials. The momiji leaf (Maple leaf) is the town symbol as it is also one of its famous foods the momiji manju.
This is Shirakami shrine in Hiroshima near my hotel.
Here's a bowl of Aouzou Ramen (Hiroshima style ramen) that has a soy based broth and thin hard noodles.

At the banquet there were several varieties of nihonshu (sake) from the famous region Saijo. We were told to lick salt off the rim of the sake cup, tequila style when tyring these varieties a first for me. This was the custom for the sweeter tasting varieties.
